The Jockey Club Movin’ Care for Parkinson’s Disease Project – Closing Ceremony cum Outcome Sharing Seminar
Enhancing Well-being of People with Parkinson's Disease with Community Care and Compassion

Research conducted by the Centre on Behavioral Health and the School of Nursing of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has revealed that more than 2,500 people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) and concerned individuals have experienced improved mind-body well-being after participating in six-week wellness interventions, including expressive arts, mindful yoga, somatic movement and physical exercise. Specifically, participants who engaged in the expressive arts and mindful yoga interventions showed significant improvements when compared with their earlier questionnaire results, in areas such as self-compassion, social support, self-efficacy and engagement in social and physical activities.

Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the “Jockey Club Movin’ Care for Parkinson's Disease Project” (“JC Movin’ Care” Project) was launched to promote early risk assessment and advocate for “early awareness, early diagnosis and early care” of the disease. Over the past three years, the “JC Movin’ Care” Project organised 116 educational seminars for over 11,000 participants and conducted risk assessments with questionnaires and physical assessments for over 3,300 PwPD and concerned individuals. The “JC Movin’ Care” Project also provided professional training for more than 1,000 social workers, healthcare professionals, domestic helpers and caregivers to enhance their skills in assisting PwPD with daily living. Furthermore, the “JC Movin’ Care” Project successfully trained nearly 120 peer supporters, more than 130 volunteers, and nearly 460 social workers and healthcare professionals through activities such as self-compassion training, Dance with Parkinson’s, and Playback Theatre.

The Closing Ceremony cum Outcome Sharing Seminar of the “JC Movin’ Care” Project will take place on 27 March 2026, where its key achievements will be announced. There will also be experience sharing sessions with project shareholders, including PwPD, community artists and project partners. Interactive workshops, such as an expressive art therapy, mindful movement practice and human library, will also be held. The event is open to the public, social welfare and allied health professionals, PwPD and their caregivers. Admission is free.

Background of the Jockey Club Movin’ Care for Parkinson's Disease Project
The Jockey Club Movin’ Care for Parkinson's Disease Project (2023-2026) is a collaboration between the Centre on Behavioral Health and the School of Nursing of The University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation. Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the project aims to establish a comprehensive and sustainable community care service model for the Parkinson's disease-related community. It promotes early awareness of the risks of disease, early diagnosis and rehabilitation, and early care for mind-body wellness. The project also focuses on community engagement to raise awareness of Parkinson's disease in the community.
