"Safeguard Our Children by Oral Care” Milestone Celebration Ceremony
The Faculty of Dentistry at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will hold the “Jockey Club Children Oral Health Project ‘Safeguard Our Children by Oral Care’ Milestone Celebration Ceremony” on June 15, 2026, to mark the successful culmination of the “Jockey Club Children Oral Health Project”, which is funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. The event will feature sharing of project results, oral health data and research findings related to participating children. There will also be a showcase of educational materials and promotional items for oral health education.
Project Background:
Tooth decay in preschool children, or early childhood caries (ECC), is one of the most prevalent diseases among preschool children, causing pain and infection, yet it is preventable. Family care and education in schools play an essential role in children’s oral health.
The Faculty of Dentistry launched the “Jockey Club Children Oral Health Project” in 2019 with funding from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. It received additional funding to extend the project for a second phase . The project aims to improve the oral health of children in Hong Kong and strengthen home-school dental care and education for children. Services include dental check-ups and treatment to arrest tooth decay in preschool children, as well as oral health education for parents, caregivers and kindergarten staff.
