High West Development Wins Gold and Silver at 2026 HKIS Awards

HKU’s High West Development has secured Gold and Silver awards at the 2026 Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) Awards, a recognition of its pioneering use of Advanced Hybrid Modular Integrated Construction (MiC).

The development addresses critical accommodation needs by providing over 1,200 student hostel places and staff residential units. Supported by the HKSAR Government’s Hostel Development Fund, it aims to attract global talent and strengthen Hong Kong’s position as an international education hub.

The project won Gold in Construction (Building) and Silver in Planning & Development.

As Hong Kong’s first large-scale private residential pilot for Advanced Hybrid MiC, the project involved significant industry innovation. Over 81% of the floor area was constructed using MiC technology, and the approach drove breakthroughs in logistics optimisation, quality management, and full life-cycle management.

The project also integrates smart city solutions, including blockchain-based electronic production certificates and smart home automation systems. Recognising its sustainable design, the development received the highest Provisional Platinum rating under BEAM Plus New Buildings in 2022.
