香港大學今年頒授名譽大學院士銜予8位傑出人士

香港大學(港大)將於2013年10月9日(星期三)舉行名譽大學院士頒授典禮，向8位傑出人士頒授名譽大學院士銜，以表揚他們對大學及社會的貢獻。頒授典禮由港大副校監李國寶博士主禮。

獲頒該榮銜的8位傑出人士包括：

名譽大學院士簡介

1．梁安妮女士
梁安妮女士為恒信公關國際有限公司創辦人，是香港品牌建立、機構通訊及市場推廣業界的先驅和翹楚。她肄業於香港大學，1971年獲授英國文學及翻譯文學士學位，2010年獲授佛學碩士學位，並於1976年獲取英國牛津大學高級教育文憑。梁女士熱心大學事務，為香港大學基金資深創會會員、柏立基學院管理委員會主席，曾任港大「師友計劃」導師。她亦是牛津大學中國獎學金創會會員及信託人, 以及多家機構的董事局成員。

2. 陳南祿博士
陳南祿博士為恒隆集團有限公司及恒隆地產有限公司董事總經理。陳博士畢業於香港大學，1977年獲授文學士學位，並於 1984年獲授工商管理學碩士學位。陳博士曾出任多項重要公職，現為香港地產建設商會執行委員會成員、香港貿易發展局理事，以及香港中華總商會常務會董。他熱心公益，現時為香港賽馬會董事及香港公益金名譽副會長。陳博士曾出任大學教育資助委員會當然委員及其轄下質素保證局首任主席，推動本地高等教育向前發展，貢獻良多。身為港大校友，陳博士多年來一直熱心支持母校的工作，陳博士於2012年獲頒授金紫荊星章。

3．周明權博士
周明權博士為專業土木及結構工程師，1964年於香港大學畢業，獲授工程學士學位，從本地和海外事大型基建和建築項目的設計、建造和管理工作近50年。周博士是港大校董會成員、香港大學基金資深創會會員，曾任港大「師友計劃」導師，並為工程學院百周年紀慶組委會主席。他在專業範疇備受敬重，曾擔任香港工程師學會會長、香港工程師註冊局及香港建造業工人註冊管理局主席。此外，他曾擔任香港理工大學理事會副主席，並於1999年獲理工大學頒授榮譽工程學博士學位。周博士於1992年獲委任為太平紳士，1997年獲頒英帝國官佐勳章。

4．方津生醫生
方津生醫生是著名的骨科專家，長於頸、背、成人髖關節重建和膝蓋等外科手術。方醫生畢業於香港大學，獲授內外全科醫學士學位，其後獲利物浦大學骨科碩士學位。他曾在港大醫學院矯形及創傷外科學系執教，並擔任瑪麗醫院、葛量洪醫院和那打素醫院的名譽外科顧問醫生。他現為港大醫學院名譽教授及矯形及創傷外科學系名譽臨床醫學教授。他積極服務社會，領導多個專業團體，曾任香港骨科醫學會會長、香港醫學會會長及香港醫學專科學院主席。方醫生為太平紳士，1998年獲頒銀紫荊星章。

5．呂君發先生 (發叔)
呂君發先生於1953年加入香港大學學生會擔任辦公室助理，時年十八；1969年晉升為經理，盡忠職守服務學生會近半世紀，直至1997年退休。他任職44年期間，一直以服務學生至上的宗旨做事，學生們暱稱他為「發叔」。他為了配合不同年代學生的需要；屢獻新猷，例如由他倡議成立的學生會合作社和畢業前職業輔導服務，便是歷屆學生會幹事和會員津津樂道的集體回憶。呂先生於1988年獲頒英女皇傑出服務獎，以表彰他對學生會的服務和貢獻。（呂先生於今年1月出席港大學生會創會百周年慶典活動，相關報道見https://daaoweb.hku.hk/UserFiles/Image/publication_book/CNews/Spring2013/fai.pdf ）

6．蘇瑞福教授
蘇瑞福教授為國際知名學者，人口統計學、金融統計學和金融經濟學專家。他肄業於新加坡馬來亞大學，分別於1957年和1960年獲學士及碩士學位，其後獲倫敦政治經濟學院統計學博士學位。他現為新加坡東南亞研究學院教授院士及新加坡國立大學名譽教授。他是香港大學基金名譽董事，在大學任教期間創立了統計及精算學系，並透過捐助為該系成立了蘇瑞福統計學金獎、蘇瑞福統計學獎學金，及蘇瑞福統計學訪問教授計劃。

7．王世榮博士
王世榮博士現為漢國置業有限公司、建業實業有限公司及建聯集團有限公司主席。他肄業於美國貝勒大學，獲物理和數學學士學位，其後獲美國加州理工學院數學博士學位。他曾任美國愛荷華大學數學系教授，於1974年回港，管理家族生意。王博士不僅是成功的商人，亦是一位有卓越學術成就的數學家，對微分方程、定性和振盪原理及功能分析等方面的研究。貢獻良多，並發表了多篇論文。王博士現為港大數學系名譽教授和財務委員會成員，亦曾任大學校務委員會和其轄下委員會審查委員會成員。他於1987年獲委任為太平紳士。

8．余雷覺雲女士
余雷覺雲女士是知名的慈善家，積極參與慈善捐献和籌款工作。她畢業於美國加州米爾斯學院，獲學士學位。余女士非常關注由新型致病微生物引起的新發傳染病，如禽流感和SARS等構成的全球健康威脅。除了捐助在2003年設立的港大SARS研究基金外，還接著成立了余雷覺雲感染及傳染病中心，促進傳染病的研究和教學工作。她的丈夫余宇康教授是港大校友，夫婦倆一向熱心港大事務，同為香港大學基金榮譽會長，並於2008年設立了余氏基金教授席（腎科），推動大學的教研發展。

The Pro-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) Dr the Hon David Kwok Po LI will confer Honorary University Fellowships upon eight distinguished individuals at a ceremony held on October 9, 2013 (Wednesday).

Honorary University Fellowships are conferred to individuals in recognition of their contributions to the University and to the community. The eight distinguished individuals to be conferred at the presentation ceremony are:

Biographies of the recipients:

1. Mrs Annie LIANG BENTLEY
Mrs Annie Liang Bentley is the founder of Bentley Communications and a pioneer and doyen of the branding, corporate and marketing communications profession in Hong Kong. She holds a BA in English Literature and Chinese Translation (1971) and an MA in Buddhist Studies (2010) from HKU, and received an Advanced Certificate in Education (1976) at the University of Oxford. Mrs Bentley has served the University as, inter alia, Chairman of the Robert Black College Management Committee, a Founding Senior Member of the HKU Foundation, and an HKU Mentor to its students. She is a Trustee of the China Oxford Scholarship Fund, and a Board Member of numerous organisations.

2. Dr Philip CHEN Nan Lok
Dr Philip CHEN Nan Lok is Managing Director of the Hang Lung Group and Hang Lung Properties Limited. Dr Chen holds a BA (1977) and MBA (1984) from HKU. He has held a long list of public duties and appointments across varied fields and organisations. He is currently, inter alia, an Executive Committee Member of The Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong, a Member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and a Standing Committee Member of the Hong Kong Chinese Chamber of Commerce. In charity services, Dr Chen is a Steward of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and Vice Patron of the Hong Kong Community Chest. The higher education sector in Hong Kong has been strengthened from the leadership Dr Chen brought to the University Grants Committee as its Ex-officio Member and the first Chairman of the Quality Assurance Council. At HKU, Dr Chen continues to enthusiastically take part in activities organised by his alma mater. He was appointed the Gold Bauhinia Star in 2012.

3. Ir Dr Joseph CHOW Ming Kuen
Ir Dr Joseph Chow is a civil and structural engineer by profession.  He holds a BSc (Eng) (1964) from HKU and has spent almost 50 years in the design, construction and management of many major local and international infrastructural and building projects. He has served the University, inter alia, as a Court Member, Founding Senior Member of the HKU Foundation, an HKU Mentor to its students, and Chairman of Faculty of Engineering’s Centenary Celebration Organising Committee. Dr Chow has been the President of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and Chairman of the Hong Kong Engineers Registration Board and the Hong Kong Construction Workers Registration Authority. He also served as the Deputy Chairman of Council of the HK Polytechnic, which awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in 1999. Dr Chow was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1992 and awarded an OBE in 1997.

4. Dr David FANG Jin Sheng
Dr David Fang is a private orthopaedic surgeon whose main interests are in the neck and back, adult hip reconstruction, and knee surgery. Dr Fang holds an MBBS from HKU and a Master’s degree in Orthopaedics (MChOrth) from the University of Liverpool. He has served in the HKU Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology and as an honorary consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Queen Mary, Grantham, and Nethersole Hospitals. He continues to contribute to the University as Honorary Professor of the Faculty of Medicine and Honorary Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr Fang has held the Presidency of the Hong Kong Orthopaedic Association, the Hong Kong Medical Association and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. Dr Fang is a Justice of the Peace and was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 1998.

5. Mr LUI Kwan Fat
Mr Lui Kwan Fat joined the HKU Students' Union in 1953 as an office assistant, aged 18. He was promoted to the post of Union Manager in 1969, and remained with the Union for 44 years until his retirement in 1997. During his more than four decades of service, he initiated and implemented numerous ways of meeting the changing needs of students in each new era, the Union’s Cooperative and career support services initiated by him are part of the collective memory of successive cohorts of students. Mr Lui received the Queen’s Valuable Service Award in 1988, in recognition of his service to the Students’ Union.

6. Professor SAW Swee Hock
Professor Saw Swee Hock is a leading expert on statistical demography, statistical finance and financial economics. He holds a BA (1957) and an MA (1960) from the University of Malaya in Singapore and a PhD in Statistics from the London School of Economics. He is a Professional Fellow of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore, and the President’s Honorary Professor of Statistics in the National University of Singapore. He is presently serving as an Honorary Director of the HKU Foundation, is a Founding Chair of the HKU Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science and provided funds to establish the Saw Gold Medal in Statistics, Saw Swee Hock Statistics Scholarship, and Saw Swee Hock Visiting Professorship in Statistics at HKU.

7. Dr James WONG Sai Wing
Dr James WONG Sai Wing is Chairman of Hon Kwok Land Investment Co Ltd, Chinney Investments Ltd and Chinney Alliance Group Ltd. Dr Wong holds a BSC in Physics and Mathematics from Baylor University, USA and a PhD in Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology. After serving as a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Iowa, he returned to Hong Kong in 1974 to manage the family business. Dr Wong is not only a successful businessman but remains also a mathematician and prolific researcher, with published papers that focus on his interest in differential equations, qualitative and oscillation theory, and functional analysis. He has served the University as an Honorary Professor in the Department of Mathematics, and a Member of Council, the Committee Review Committee and the Finance Committee. Dr Wong was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1987.

8. Mrs Carol YU LOUEY Kwok Won
Mrs Carol Yu is a respected philanthropist and fundraiser, and holds a BA from Mills College in California, USA. She is especially concerned about global health threats due to emerging infectious diseases caused by novel microbial agents, such as the bird flu and SARS. The support she provided to the HKU SARS Research Fund in 2003 resulted in the establishment of the Carol Yu Centre for Infection, a research centre for infectious disease research and education. Together with her husband, HKU alumnus Professor Richard Yu Yue Hong, the Yu couple have been staunch supporters of the University and are both Honorary Patrons of the HKU Foundation, helping to establish the Yu Professorship in 2008.
