HKU Honours 208 Staff with Long Service Awards

The University of Hong Kong has recognised the enduring dedication of 208 staff members who have shaped its academic and operational landscape for at least 15 years, honouring their loyalty during the annual Long Service Awards Presentation Ceremony.

Held on 9 September at Loke Yew Hall, the ceremony underscored the vital role that long-serving colleagues play in sustaining HKU’s mission.

Acting President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard Wong officiated the event, acknowledging the collective impact of these professionals whose careers span decades of service to the University.

No matter how technology may change, a University is built around people, Professor Wong noted during his opening remarks.

The event highlighted not just tenure, but the sustained engagement required to support HKU’s educational and research excellence. From administrative work to academic leadership, these staff members all contributed to the University’s remarkable stability and growth over the past several decades.

Their long-term presence ensures continuity in teaching, research support, and student services, forming the foundation upon which HKU’s global reputation rests.

A total of 116 staff members received the 15-year award, while 59 were recognised for 25 years of service. Twenty-four were honoured for their 35-year contributions, eight for 40 years, and one colleague received the 45-year award.
